It has been over a month since we launched our redesigned homepage. As the templates and styles have already been created, we have launched it, but there is still a lot to work on. Thanks to a member of our church creating this refined design for us, the development and implementation was simple, but there are still a few things that need to be ironed out. For example on tablet and mobile views, there are problems with the hamburger menu, and though we managed to resolve this, there are still other problems, like how the gallery does not align the pictures into the centre.
There are still a lot of problems aside from the technical issues that need fine tuning. For example, the size and font of the text, ensuring the spacing is sufficient between the columns and images. We also need to ensure that the view between the desktop, tablets, mobiles are all properly developed. Especially given how different the tablet and mobile views are from the desktop version, there is quite a lot of consideration required around the formatting of the pages. We had also created an English site, but there are differences with the Korean site that causes synchronisation issues, and there are more than 100 pages where we have this problem. Even after making the changes, it takes a while before the mobile and tablet versions of the site are updated.
As I felt bad asking the pastor who helped us develop this every time for small changes, I learned a little myself and helped work on it too. However, as I am still quite unfamiliar with the process, while I initially may think I did a good job, when I look back at it there are still problems. Or it looks okay on mobile, but problems on the tablet. By working on things here and there, I end up spending a lot of time and energy into making these changes. Thankfully, I believe I now have the skills(?) in order to make most changes as the administrator. By doing a little more, I think I can become a developer haha…
Through this experience, I have learned a lot about my own personality and abilities too. When I told Taekyu to make some amendments to the background of the online service videos, I sometimes mention that if I had not become a pastor, I would have worked in design or production. Going forward, I want to continue to lean on this strength of mine.
That being said, I am not detailed in all aspects of my life. If I see something wrong, I will do everything in my power to clean/fix it, but I typically am fine with leaving this alone, I like taking new routes when driving, and I don’t necessarily plan every part of my day out. However, I am diligent in what I do, and I ensure that I complete something that I started. I focus more on the forest than the trees, so I view direction as important. Therefore, I am very assertive when it comes to direction, but I like to listen to others when it comes to the details. I think this is something that fits well with a church like ours where the youth make up the majority.
I think God has sent me here as He knows about these traits of mine. Our Father in heaven knows me better than I or my parents do. I want to thus continue to rely on Him going forward
