Pastor Chan-Kyu Lee of Hanmaum Church in Frankfurt summarised two of the most important keys to spirituality of the gospel in a seminar for pastors. 1) self-completeness 2) selective attributes. In other words, the gospel is complete in itself and has the ability to completely renew a person. However, we human beings were not made to be robots and therefore continuous reactive obedience, and our personal choices are required. When you understand and believe in this completeness of the gospel, you can continue to fulfil the obedience of your choices with great hope.
In another recent seminar, I heard that the gospel we received through Jesus Christ was a ‘complete salvation package’. The terms were different, but the content was the same. When we believe in Jesus, we are reborn and given new life. In other words, we become a new self. When life is given, it is natural for one to grow and develop with time like a child falling many times before learning to walk. At that age, no one would question or be disappointed because they know that in time, the child would learn how to make their first steps and built their strength to finally run.
Having this knowledge and belief that the child will walk, is not believing in the child’s painstaking effort but rather the belief in the greatness and ability of life that the child has. This belief is based on facts that are taken for granted, contrary to brainwashing and self-indication. Likewise, the son of God came to earth as human, and died on the cross for us. Those who accept him as saviour will receive the Holy Spirit, the Trinity God residing in us as our forever helper. How great is the life given to us in this way?
We can therefore say that a revolution begins when you accept Jesus and become His follower. We must acknowledge the life of Jesus and the gospel’s ability and continue to hear about the truth of the gospel. With our faith, we must not give up in obedience to God. Although this will mean a lifetime of spiritual war with all sins, eventually we will be break free. Similarly, it may take a long time to overcome pains and wounds of this world but one will be sure to heal with time within the process of growth.
Perhaps through our enter lives, we will continuously go through the process of healing, recovery and growth; Just like a child faces repeated failure when trying to take first steps. We should consider this a natural and essential thing in the process of growth and should not be disappointed or discouraged in these times. It is necessary to continue to obey not because of our determination, but because the life of Jesus in me is so amazing and great. It is not because you should believe in yourself but because you believe in Jesus Christ.
