When I first started going to church, it wasn’t because I loved God, but because of my wife. Honestly, going to church felt like a burden, and it was even harder for me as an English speaker attending a Korean church. I didn’t really understand the pastor’s sermons, I wasn’t praying, and I wasn’t reading the Bible. I often told people, “I’m just going because of my wife,” as an excuse. Looking back, I know that must have been difficult for her.
Things began to change when the pastor created an English cell group for people in situations like mine. At first, it didn’t bring me closer to God, but it gave me a reason to come. I enjoyed being around people, making friends, and feeling part of a community. During that time, my wife and I were going through a difficult period, and after a particularly big argument, I realised I needed to change. It was the first time I truly recognised my sin and repented.
That night, I picked up the Bible and began reading the New Testament. The very next day, coincidentally, the pastor’s sermon was on ‘repentance’, and it felt as if it had been meant just for me. That was the first real sign from God. From then on, I started reading the Bible regularly and began to understand what Jesus was saying. It was no longer just words on a page; it began to resonate deeply with me.
Afterwards, I attended B2C, which helped me grow in understanding and strengthened my faith. Our cell leader, Pastor Hyungmin Kim, has been a huge influence, providing guidance that has supported my spiritual growth. As my faith grew, I felt the need to share it and continue growing within my own language and cultural context. That is why I decided to attend an English-speaking church, where I could continue my faith within a new community.
Now, my wife and I pray together and read the Bible daily. Faith has become a real part of our lives, shaping who I am as a husband and as a man. My journey of faith is just beginning, but I am excited to see where God will lead me. God’s Vision Church has helped me grow, supported me through challenges, and shown me how to follow Christ in both my faith and my marriage.
