나는 어렸을 때부터 주변사람들에게 제일 많이 받았던 질문 중 하나가 “고향이 어디야?” “너는 너가 어느 나라 사람이라고 생각해?”였다. 태어나다보니 독일인 친구들 사이에서 뛰어 놀고 있었고, 부모님의 사역으로 인도 콜카타로 가게 되며 고등학생 때 혼자 웨일즈로 공부하러 갔다. 나는 나를 ‘이방인’으로 따로 자칭해보지 않을만큼 정체성이 뚜렷하지가 않았고, 정체성이라는 기준을 늘 어떤 표면적, 사회적 측면으로 뒀다. 단순히 […]
